Discover Waylon & Honey’S Southern Kitchen

Nestled in the heart of Waynesville, Waylon & Honey’S Southern Kitchen at 1092 N Main St has become a local favorite for anyone craving authentic Southern flavors served with warmth and charm. The atmosphere is casual yet inviting, the kind of place where families gather after church, friends catch up over hearty plates, and travelers stop in for a taste of regional comfort food done right. Locals often talk about the welcoming staff, who remember your name and your go-to order, making the dining experience feel personal every time.

One of the highlights here is the carefully crafted menu, which balances classic Southern staples with thoughtful twists. Crispy fried chicken, buttery biscuits, and smoky collard greens are staples that rarely disappoint, but diners also rave about seasonal specials that bring freshness and variety to the table. Portions are generous, staying true to the Southern tradition of sharing food and stories. In fact, TripAdvisor reviews often point out how the kitchen captures that “home-cooked” essence while maintaining restaurant-level consistency.

From a culinary perspective, the kitchen’s approach aligns with what the Southern Foodways Alliance describes as “heritage cooking”—an emphasis on regional ingredients and time-tested methods. For example, the use of locally sourced produce and slow-cooked meats mirrors a growing national trend toward farm-to-table dining. This isn’t just marketing language; research by the National Restaurant Association shows that 70% of diners actively prefer restaurants offering locally sourced items. It’s a detail that builds both trust and credibility with today’s conscious customers.

Beyond the food, the restaurant’s location adds to its appeal. Waynesville itself is a charming small town known for its mountain views and vibrant downtown, making this spot a natural stop for both locals and visitors exploring western North Carolina. Many diners mention how convenient it is to enjoy a hearty lunch before strolling through nearby shops or taking a scenic drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

What sets this kitchen apart is its ability to blend tradition with community. Families keep returning not just for the fried chicken or catfish plates, but because the restaurant feels like part of Waynesville’s identity. Food critics and casual reviewers alike highlight that sense of belonging, often ranking the place highly for both quality and consistency. Whether you’re planning your first visit or becoming a regular, it’s clear that the flavors here speak for themselves and leave a lasting impression.

  • Breakfast doesn’t usually get much better than this. Two blueberry pancakes, perfectly fluffy and bursting with fruit, soaked up just the right amount of fresh maple syrup. Next to them: scrambled eggs, soft and rich, somehow tasting better than any eggs I’ve had in ages. Three pieces of bacon added the salty, crispy bite that ties the whole plate together. And then there was the coffee — not just good, but one of those cups that makes you pause and actually savor it. Every bite and sip felt like the start of a really good day.

  • This was amazing!!! It was recommended to us and we are so glad we went. I had the fish and shrimp. Yep, had it deep fried, you can get it other ways if you like, and I even had onion rings:). The whitefish melted in my mouth and the shrimp was a real good size and deliceous, too! Onion rings, primo! They hand batter there food, it does not come in battered and frozen on a truck. Very light batter! Super large helping, gonna have the rest for lunch today! GREAT service, real nice folks!

  • Food was wonderful. Service was wonderful. We will be going back. The waitress switched out my plate because I am allergic to something that got in my bowl ( not the restaurants fault) they did not have to do that but upon hearing it between myself and someone with me they immediately switched my bowl. Above and beyond for something they did not have to do. Wonderful atmosphere. The pictures do not do the food justice

  • Exceptional omelet! Potatoes and biscuit very good. All 4 of us with different food items liked their food a lot. We ate outside in early September. We will definitely be back.

  • Nothing beats this place for breakfast. Home cooking just hits different. They were packed this morning for breakfast but still we received the best service and food you can ask for. Love this place.

  • Love the food and the waitress was extremely friendly, kids were a little confused with no name on the outside of the building, but the table and chairs in front made me know this was the right place. Came for breakfast and had just missed it. We had lunch instead and it was all good. Onion rings were a delicious choice, the breading is light and fired to perfection! Thank you for feeding my family when we were starving.

  • A cute breakfast place with some need of improvement. We had a long breakfast here. The service was good but the food took forever. We ordered biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage biscuit and Corned beef hash. Food was decent and hearty- the biscuits could be fresher they seemed maybe a day old. I am giving 4 stars because the front of house staff were so kind and kept apologizing for the wait.

  • Very good food. Excellent cake. A little on the expensive side, especially when you consider a 4% up charge for a credit card. Otherwise very attentive people and good food.
